Body Modifications - Exterior
Front Air Dam/Splitter
The Vegantune front skin I fitted many years ago had an air dam built in and it looked OK. However, I needed to add a splitter so a redesign was undertaken. I used Corex to play around with until I had abasic shape I was happy with.I covered this with fibreglass and then fine tunes the shape with body filler.
I added air vents for the radiator, air filter and oil cooler. It now transpires that I have too many openings so the three circular holes and the extra radiator opening will be removed. The two circular oil cooler vents will also be filled in as I am no longer fitting one. The only vents to remain are the original radiator vent and the rectangular air filter one.
Playing with Corex and filler until the shape is how I like it.
The three circles above the rectangle, th event under the orginal radiator openig and the two holes on the right will have to be filled in.
The front bumper was incorporated into the Vegantune skin so I decided to blend the rear one in as well.
Although I have bought some lightweight headlamps I plan, initially, to run sans lamps. So I needed to fill in the place vacated by the flip-up headlamps.
One of two holes to fill.
Removed mould, treated with release agent and laid up more glass.
Started off by refitting the light pods, sealing the gap and covering in release agent.
Then cover pod and surrounding area with fibreglass.
Removed final cover from mould and fixed to body.
.
Rubbed down and started to blend into surounding bodywork.
Not too bad a job. Easily removable in the event that I decide to put headlamps back in. I have perspex lamp covers for that eventuality.
