October 2016

1st - We have been in the States for only a week already the roll cage foam, window safety net and spark plugs have been ordered :-)

16th - Spent the day with friends (and I don't use that word lightly) Toni and Frank up in Sherman Oaks, north of LA. We were looking over his beautifully modified Elise and I commented on how rigid the Reverie carbon seats were. He siad he had a damaged one he was keeping for when he builds his simulator so he dragged it out of the cupboard for me to get a better look. The damage was minimal but it wasn't acceptable for Frank so he replaced it. He then dropped the first bombshell.

"Take it home, it will save you a lot of time making one". Too true so I asked how much he wanted for it. The second bombshell was "Nothing"!! We are travelling Business so have plenty of spare luggage allowance, I just have to work out how to wrap it :-)

As Kryten would say, "Engage smug mode".

The carbon that I have already cut for my third attempt at making a seat won't be wasted. It will be used as the inside layer of the proposed flip front :-)

3rd - I was about to buy a couple of PDMs over here when I discovered that they are £30 cheaper in the UK! I ordered them before the slump in the exchange rate affected the price.

27th - Flew back home. Picked up cases and seat and proceeded to customs. As we were arguing whether to go through Green or Red a customs offiver approached and asked if he could help. We explained our dilemma re the seat. When I said it was damaged he asked if we had cigarettes or alcohol or anything worth more than £400. When we said no he ushered us though the Green channel. Result!

29th - Dry fitted my 'new' seat and it seems to work.  Need to order seat brackets and support box section.

I will now use the seat I made for the passenger. As it is only two layers of carbon it weighs 780gms but is very flimsy. However, when secured into the car it will be fine. The Reverie weighs 2.4Kg and I can live with that :-)
